S\u00d6REN ERNST, VITA   <\/p>\n

Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1967. After an 
\ninitial apprenticeship as stonemason he soon 
\ndiscovered his passion for sculpture and served a 
\ntwo year period near Kiel in the studio of sculptor, 
\nJ\u00f6rg Plickat. There he became acquainted with 
\nother materials like wood, clay, plaster and metal, 
\nwhile stone remained his preferred choice. <\/p>\n

A two year stay in Scotland saw first exhibitions 
\nand the development of his own creative style 
\nwhich was inspired by the archaic, pre-celtic and 
\nother monolithic styles and cultures. <\/p>\n

With his move to Portugal in 1990 he discovered 
\nthe lighter side of his craft with the easy 
\navailability of limestone and marble. That made it 
\npossible to work more delicately and  added color 
\nto the stone. <\/p>\n

The culmination of this development so far, is the 
\njoint application of traditional stone craft with a 
\nblend of tile work and mosaic, enhancing and <\/p>\n

embellishing the innate quality of one another. 
\nFrom 2004 living and working together with 
\nsculptress Steff Bauer until 2015, in which period 
\nthe Algarve served as a winter domicile and 
\nGermany as the main tributary to the couples joint <\/p>\n

ventures and individual work. <\/p>\n

2016 S\u00f8ren moved to his former hometown Kiel by 
\nthe Baltic, where has a studio and outside work 
\nspace. <\/p>\n

Works include: <\/p>\n

– Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy public monument 
\nand his sister Fanny Hensel, in Hamburg, Germany <\/p>\n

– Rotunda\/Roundabout \u201cRosa dos Ventos\u201d in 
\nLagos, near the Marina, together with the 
\nPortuguese architect Antonio J.B. Fernandes <\/p>\n

– \u201cWishing Gate\u201d at Wildpark, Schweinfurt, 
\nGermany <\/p>\n

– American Veterans Monument, Alter Friedhof in 
\nSchweinfurt, Germany together with Steff Bauer <\/p>\n

– Giant head of  Donald Sutherland, alias ‚President 
\nSnow‘ for the ‚Hungergames, Mockingjay#2, 
\ntogether with Steff Bauer <\/p>\n

S\u00f8ren is founding member of EVA, an Association 
\nto further and create creative spaces in the Algarve. <\/p>\n
