Er studierte auf der Hochschule f\u00fcr angewandte Kunst in Wien, 2014 wechselte er sein Fach vom B\u00fchnenbildner zum freischaffenden Bildhauer.<\/p>\n<p>Im Mittelpunkt seiner Arbeit steht das Material Holz mit all seinen verschiedenen Ausdrucks- und Bearbeitungsm\u00f6glichkeiten.<\/p>\n<p>Seine Inspirationen entstammen der Natur, Ikonen der Kulturgeschichte oder dem Holzst\u00fcck selbst. Er schafft eigene Interpretationen, die organische wie auch menschliche Spannung in flie\u00dfende, haptische Formen umsetzt.<\/p>\n<p>Wenn Mathes einen Holzblock mit der Kettens\u00e4ge bearbeitet, ist unvorstellbar, dass auf diese grobe Bearbeitungsart letztendlich fragile und sinnliche Skulpturen entstehen k\u00f6nnen. Rohe Schnittmuster heben die Struktur des bearbeiteten Holzes hervor, Riefen und Rillen werden zum Leben erweckt. Feinschliff und \u00d6l lassen seidige Fl\u00e4chen entstehen, die zu streicheln durchaus ein Erlebnis sein kann. (F.
